Death Gets a Red Card is an Interactive Mystery Game for Teenagers

Death Gets a Red Card is an interactive mystery game for teenagers and, like the board game Clue, involves the use of problem solving and critical thinking skills. Teens are given the opportunity to put their brains to work as they figure out each suspect's motive.

The crime has already happened at the beginning of the game, so all violence is implied and not graphically presented. The focus is not on the crime itself, but on solving the crime.

These mystery games are quite popular in libraries across the nation. This will be the second mystery game at the Wichita Public Library. Teens enjoyed The Disappearance of Angela Day, held last fall, and asked for another mystery game. Libraries in Missouri, Ohio, and Connecticut have also held Death Gets a Red Card. Teens who participate usually love the opportunity to turn into a crime-fighter.

This game was chosen by the Wichita Public Library to correspond with the Teens Read theme Read Tomorrow's Movies Today. Teen sleuths will appear in the movies yet again this summer with Scooby Doo. Young detectives have become popular archetypes, including teens and children such as the Hardy Boys, Bobbsey Twins, and Nancy Drew.

Death Gets a Red Card will not suit every teen's taste, of course, and is just one program for teens this summer. Other options include a chocolate festival, writing workshop with author Lois Ruby, creative dramatics with Bambi Stoffer of Wichita Children's Theatre & Dance Center, and more.
