Battleship; the old game that manages to stay new!
Battleship is a game that has remained popular since it was released to the gaming public and has gone through many evolutional changes. It started as a simple tabletop game where the object was to destroy all of your opponent’s battleships. It went through a few changes adding electronic touches and portable versions for play during travel. It is a family game that can be played by all ages and still enjoyed. Battleship has continued to evolve into the computer age and it is very popular as an online game. You can play it alone against another computer or you can play with other players on the Internet.
You first place your five ships where you want them and you start the game. The five ships include an Aircraft Carrier, Battleship, Cruiser, Destroyer, and Submarine. Each have different hit points depending on the size of the ship. For example, the Aircraft Carrier has five hit points while the battleship has two, because the battleship is smaller. Combat is achieved by a turn based system, so you take turns with the enemy lobbing weapons at each other, hoping to score a hit. The game starts when you select the first area you'd like to fire upon. Simply indicating which square on the grid you’d like to place your shot does this. In the computer game you would click on that spot. In the old tabletop classic you would place a small peg there.
It is easy to download this game as freeware and begin enjoying the fun immediately. Many web sites host game zones that allow you to make contact with other players and then let the games begin!
