• Tibetan Girl Becomes Australian under 10 Chess Champion
  An 8-year old Tibetan girl was crowned the queen of chessboard in Australia. According to a report received from Australia based Office of the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Emma Guo Yuthok knows her way around kings, queens and knights better than any other Australian girl under 10. The Kaleen Primary student, who learnt chess from her father Lama Choedak Rinpoche, has been playing chess since she was five.

• U. T. Dallas Chess Program To Offer Two Summer Camps for Kids in June

• Disney’s Aladdin Chess Adventures
  Fluent Entertainment, Vivendi Universal Games and Disney Interactive, a publishing label of Buena Vista Games, have announced Disney’s Aladdin Chess Adventures, which will be showcased at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). Following up on its 2003 hit Hoyle® Majestic Chess™, Disney’s Aladdin Chess Adventures features one of Disney’s most recognizable characters, Aladdin. Disney’s Aladdin Chess Adventures will be released in October 2004 to coincide with the DVD release of the 'Platinum Edition' Ten Year Anniversary Aladdin animated feature film.

• It's More than a Game: The Art of Chess Today Exhibit
  Maryhill Museum will open its 2004 season with the special exhibit It's More Than A Game: The Art of Chess Today. • Chess Software Beta Release From Ingenuware, Ltd.
  In a flurry of excitement today, Ingenuware released the initial Beta version of their computer chess program, ChessRally 2. Ingenuware's prior versions of their chess program were called I-Chess. In a bold marketing initiative, the managing directors of Ingenuware decided to change the name to ChessRally. They felt the new name would be more enticing to new and existing users alike.

• Man vs. Machine Chess Championship
  Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Sports Commissioner Kenneth J. Podziba today announced that New York City will host a world-class chess championship between the world’s #1 ranked chess player, Garry Kasparov, and Deep Junior, the reigning computer chess champion. This Man vs. Machine tournament will be the first World Chess Championship sanctioned by both the Federation Internationale des Echecs, the international governing body of chess and the International Computer Game Association.

• THE HISTORY OF COMPUTER CHESS
  It is fitting that the historic Man versus Machine Championship between Garry Kasparov and Deep Junior is being held in the United States, because computer chess was largely born in the United States. The seminal paper on programming computers to play chess was published by an American named Claude Shannon, also known as The Father of Information Theory, in 1950. Shannon's paper described the basic approaches still used in computer chess programming.

• USCF Unveils US Chess Live
  The United States Chess Federation, in cooperation with GamesParlor, Inc., will unveil their new, official online chess playing service, US Chess Live, at the 101st U.S. Open. The service is available to all USCF members; current plans include a monthly lecture series, banter games, contests, online play, interactive quizzes and puzzles and much more.

• 1st Annual Mayor's Grandmaster Chess Tournament
  Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and New York City Sports Commissioner Kenneth Podziba today announced the start of the 1st annual Mayor's Cup Grandmaster Chess Tournament, to take place at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens. Some of the world's most talented chess players representing the Ukraine, Israel, Zambia, the Czech Republic, and the United States are scheduled to compete in a nine-day tournament for the Mayor's Cup.

• Checkers And Chess Are Both All About Skill
  In most English speaking countries around the world, children begin to play games at an early age. Checkers and Chess are two of the first games children will be introduced to when they are old enough to understand the concepts. Checkers is a game that many people take to very easily and will enjoy it through out their lives. Chess is usually a game that catches your interest or does not. It is far less popular than checkers. Checkers and Chess are both games of skill and do not rely on a dice to determine how a player will move. The players wholly initiate the plays of the game, as they enact their strategies. The goal of both games it to take control of all of your opponents play pieces.
